CONGRESS OF
DISABLED PERSONS AGAINST EXPLOITATION
ANNOUNCES IN THE SPIRIT OF THE PRESIDENT'S NEW
FREEDOM INITIATIVE
THE OLMSTEAD PRODUCT REVIEW
AND CERTIFICATION CENTER
FOR MANUFACTURES OF
INDEPENDENT LIVING PRODUCTS
In the spirit of Olmstead
Supreme Court decision and President Bush's Executive Order, "
FREEDOM INITIATIVE ", whereby elderly and disabled persons are able
to choose where they
want to live, the
CONGRESS OF DISABLED PERSONS AGAINST EXPLOITATION AND THE TLC
FOUNDATION announces
a center to test and certify new products to allow people to live
independently in there own homes. This process is designed to allow
disable persons and
the elderly evaluate the quality and usefulness of products. To learn
more
about the "olmstead approved products". The new center will allow
persons
to know that the Olmstead Approved Products and Services (OAP) are
of the highest quality at reduced prices. Thus Able Home
Aides is helping fulfill the Executive Order of President Bush.
Below are the highlights of what THE OLMSTEAD PRODUCT
REVIEW
AND CERTIFICATION CENTER (OPRCC) will do:
- To review products that are designed, and advertised, to
aid disabled and elderly.
- To test these products for usefulness, reliability,
durability,
cost / effectiveness and whether the product does what it says.
- To see that Professional Care Centers
have the necessary Olmstead Approved Products and Equipment
need
to care and train elderly and disabled persons. These centers may allow
Olmstead Freedom
Fighters to train their staff and their clients on how the many Olmstead
Approved Products and Equipment can help to live with
dignity. ABLE HOME AIDES
has agreed to train Olmstead Freedom Fighters on the products
that will aid persons live independently. It is hoped that what happen
to Bruce will not
happen again.
WHO WILL DO THE TESTING?
- Products designed for a specific disability, e.g. victims
of MS,
will be given to a person who matches the disability.
- Instructions will be given as to how to evaluate, rate and
report any problems.
- The CONGRESS OF DISABLED PERSONS AGAINST EXPLOITATION
(CODPAE) will
contact disabled and elderly people, or TLC may contract with
one of the Centers for Independent Living who will find persons that
will evaluate the product
or service center.
- When the evaluation is complete, the CODPAE
Foundation will
award a OAP certification to the manufactures who passes the
evaluation. A $50 fee will be charged by CODPAE for
the certification process. CODPAE will in turn pay
the people for conducting the evaluation. We at CODPAE feel
very strongly that disabled
and elderly persons should be paid for their knowledge and expertise.
HOW WOULD THIS HELP YOU?
- A list of Olmstead Approved Products (OAP) will
be put on
the CODPAE web-sites as approved for disabled and elderly
person's who want to live in their own home, or in a community
setting.
- The OPA list will distribute this list to various
government, local, private agencies rehabilitation centers and CIL
centers.
- We will advocate that OAP's be put on all Medicare
approved buying list to help manufacture's and dealers sell their
products.
- We belong to the Van G. Miller and Associations, known as
the VGM Group, The nation's largest buying alliance. Thus, we advocate
the use of OPA products.
- Manufacture's can have their product(s) advertised on the AHA
web site at http://www.universalc.com/oap.html for a $35
fee (for each product).
